Candy Abalone Drying Facility

Candy Abalone only produces dried products from wild caught abalone and does not use chemical additives or drying machines. The drying process follows the traditional Japanese method, using natural airflow to achieve a tender, candied delicacy.

The Candy Abalone retail shop is located at Cambridge, 15 minutes drive from Hobart city and five minutes from the Airport, it is a must stop if you are looking to buy Seafood in Tasmania. The Candy Abalone experience is more than visiting an abalone shop, our drying facility is in the same location, and we share this site with Barilla Bay Oysters and Gillespsies Ginger beer, a full Tasmanian Seafood and produce experience. Upstairs from the Candy Abalone Seafood shop in Tasmania, there is an opportunity to try some abalone from the menu of the Barilla Bay Seafood Restaurant, The restaurant captures the essence of Tasmania, focusing on fresh, local produce allowing the chef to create an uncomplicated and approachable menu.

Oyster Abalone & Ginger Beer Land Based Farm Tour

Candy Abalone is lucky enough to share our east coast site with some excellent Tasmanian producers, Barilla Bay Oysters and Gillespie’s Ginger Beer. A 50-60 minute public tour is available which gives access to our drying and processing environment,  an informative display of the Abalone industry in Tasmania and an overview of oyster farming and grading, a display of local crustaceans with photo opportunities and a beach tour to see the oyster lease. This is all finished off with a refreshing tasting and introduction to Gillespies Ginger Beer and six freshly shucked oysters.
